This report explores the experiences of St’uxwstews First Nations individuals in accessing mental health and wellness services through the lens of Skú7pecen (Porcupine), a Secwépemc teaching that emphasizes perseverance, humility, and bridging diverse knowledge systems. The research, rooted in Secwépemc methodologies, centers on the voices of St'uxwstews community members and mental health clinicians to identify strengths, barriers, and opportunities within the mental health and wellness system.

As a St’uxwstews te Secwépemc nurse and researcher, I have drawn on the wisdom of my ancestors and teachings from my community to inform this study. The research aims to highlight the need for culturally safe and strengths-based approaches to First Nations mental health and wellness care.
